The well known Rolling Stone magazine, knows for its edgy news on aspiring musician and writers are creeping into the nightclub scene. In order to cement their brand in a new venue, Rolling Stone is going big.

Think Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, House of Blues. If things play out for the Stone Guru’s this place will be popping. According to the owners at Stone, guests will experience immaculate quality of food in a hipper and fancier setting than establishments in its niche.

Next summer, we expect to see this club erected at Hollywood and Highland Center.

2010 Move Over Law

In California, the “Move-over” law become operative on January 1, 2010.

The Law holds that motorists in California could be fined for failing to slow down or move over when passing parked emergency vehicles.

Move Over!

I recently found this story regarding the Move-over Law:

I wanted to let my Medlock Bridge neighbors know about the move over law. My son got a ticket on Pleasant Hill coming back from Wal-Mart. A Duluth police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. My son slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. My son and I had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the next lane or slow down to 20 miles below the posted Speed limit.

As the cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance, it seems like an important law to share.  Beware people!

Census Day is April 1, 2010. But Don’t Be Fooled!

The federal government undertakes a formal census every 10 years, and 2010 is the year.

By: Rob JordanCensus_Bureau_seal.svg

Over the next weeks and months, the Census Bureau will be collecting information by mail, phone and in person. The purpose of the census is simple: figure out how many people live in the United States, where they live, and a bit about them. The data is used for a variety of purposes, including how to dole out the millions and billions of dollars the government sends to states and localities based on population. But scams abound.

The ONLY information you are required to give is: the number of people living in your house, their gender, and their race, their name, their age, do you own or rent the home you’re living in, your phone number (in case they have questions).

You should NOT give any other personal information, such as Social Security numbers or bank account information. A legitimate census worker will NEVER ask to come inside your house. Solar Panel

Solar Panel

The trend these days is being “Green.”  For quite a while we’ve talked and dreamt about how solar could revolutionize our society.  Now, the hypothesizing is leading to action.  Uriel Solar is a perfect example.  With a goal to revolutionize commercial solar energy, Uriel Solar specializes in minimal cost, thin-film-based  solar panels.

Currently, they’ve initiated prototype development in Westlake Village.  Their team of scientists is developing a solar cell deposition approach and a new patented device structure based on cadmium telluride (CdTe). The optical properties of these thin semiconductor layers are such that >90% of the sunlight will be absorbed and used for generating electricity. These layers are about 1/100 the thickness of a human hair!

Thin-film solar cell substrates can be made of glass, which is very cheap

(cheaper than silicon) and the combination of thin layers and cheap glass substrates provide a very price competitive base for the production of solar cells and panels.

Uriel Solar was incorporated in August 2008 and has since then filed important patents, hired experienced materials scientists and established a development facility in Westlake Village, CA. With the arrival of our thin-film deposition system in late June, Uriel Solar has initiated prototype development. Our team of scientists is developing a novel thin-film solar cell deposition approach and a new patented device structure based on cadmium telluride (CdTe), which is a semiconductor alloy with exceptional sunlight-absorbing properties. We are very excited about this new manufacturing approach and our unique device structure, since they are so dramatically different from every other CdTe thin-film technology on the market. The first prototype solar cells should be available the first quarter of 2010.

When winter rains pound in Thousand Oaks and Westlake, where do the homeless find a place with a roof?  The Lutheran Social Services’ winter homeless shelter in Thousand Oaks is one option.  On December 1st, during one of our biggest winter storms, 20 people checked in for a hot meal and a dry place to lay down.

People struggling financially are urged to come to dinner once in a while to save some grocery money and avoid falling behind on rent.

The homeless can use a multitude of donations such as backpacks, hamburger gift coupons, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, deodorant, shampoo, soap and razors. You can drop these items at, 80 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. For more information, call (805) 497-6207.

Short Sales in the Conejo Valley

Short Sales Just Became Easier at Wells Fargo, Wachovia, World Savings6a00d8341bf8e153ef01156fb43d82970c-800wi

By: Rob Jordan

Short sales, where the homeowner owes more than the home is worth, constitute a large percentage of home sales these days. Short sales have a reputation as being long, difficult, stressful transactions for sellers, buyers and real estate agents. But that’s all changing for homeowners with loans from Wells Farto (and Wachovia and World Savings, which merged with Wells Fargo previously.) Wells has established a single, responsive, local loan officer who deals exclusively with short sale transactions. Here are 2 big positive changes. 1) If you’re a homeowner who desires a short sale, Wells will give a YES or NO response to your request within 72 hours!  This is fantastic! Typically you have had to wait weeks and sometimes months to even get started with your lender. 2) Once the process starts, Wells is committed to concluding the transaction in 30 days. Are you kidding me? Short sales typically take 3 or 6 or 9 months!

So if you’re a homeowner with a Wells Fargo, Washovia, or World Savings loan and you’re facing a short sale, your life just became a lot easier and less stressful. For additional information, contact Rob Jordan at 818.237.4425.

Westlake Dog Saved from Coyote

English Bull dog not meant to die

English Bull Dog

Another miracle on the vicious Westlake Village front.  After hearing a “strange” noise, Jamie Andrew of Westlake Village began approaching the commotion.  What she saw was rather unpleasant.  3 ravenous coyotes were choking an English bull dog and dragging the dog up the hillside.  With a little craft in the form of waving her hand, Andrews scared away the coyotes and the dog was uninjured.

Eating three to four times a day, standing 7 1/2 feet on his hind legs and weighing 185 pounds, Raz currently holds the record as the largest dog in the world.

As a certified service dog, Raz visits hospitals to cheer up sickly children.

Gary and Jill Clark, owners of Raz, reside in Thousand Oaks and purchased a large utility-type van and removed some back seats to make room for Raz. They also constructed a ramp to help him get inside easily.

Raz’s job, as a certified service dog, is to visit hospitals and cheer up ill children. “He’s a big dog with a big heart,” Clark said. “A gentle, goofy giant.”

The Thousand Oaks City Council voted unanimously to increase parking spaces and create an ad hoc committee to take a look at revitalizing the exterior of what was once called the world’s largest Auto Mall. The proposed plan will cost $8.5 million and provide 364 more parking spaces and a widening of public street.

The recommended parking improvement plan will cost $8.5 million and provide 364 more parking spaces. It will also widen the public streets and add angled parking and speed bumps to slow traffic. Phase I will cost $5 million and create 190 new parking spaces.
